Diabetes and Weight-Management Games

Written by Ginger Vieira of Living in Progress

It’s been a busy July so far and I backed-off on the constant blogging of meals and exercise. I never stopped eating and I certainly never stopped working out. My weight-loss has maintained itself at a 3lb loss, no more and no less. But I know very well why I haven’t lost any weight over the past 3 weeks:

1. The heat. During our heatwave, I was eating funnily. Going too long between meals and not eating enough calories until the very end of the day. The effect this has on the metabolism is significant. Our metabolism is like a fire, and if you don’t any wood for too many hours in a row, your fire is going to slow wayyyyy down. Eating every three hours keeps your metabolism running strong.

2. My exercise patterns haven’t been consistent because while I’m still working out just as hard, my injuries have been healing! And this is good except for the fact that it makes me want to lift heavy weights again and build muscle/strength instead of sticking to higher-rep/lower-weight circuit training. The heavier I lift, the less likely I am to see a drop in poundage on the scale, because even if I’m maintaining a my body fat loss, my muscles are going to be storing more glycogen, more water, and regaining awfully quickly to where they were a few months ago when I was powerlifting. (And I’m going to need more calories for that kind of weightlifting!)
